Sandtray Therapy

Sandtray Therapy

Sandtray therapy (sometimes known as Sandplay Therapy) is a form of therapy where small objects are used to create a scene, picture or world in sand. The sand can also be moved and sculpted to form patterns, shapes or a landscape.  This approach can be used by everyone - adults and teenagers as well as younger children.

When the process of working with a sand tray occurs, something of the inner world becomes revealed, which could be feelings, perceptions, memories or ideas. Unconscious content can be brought in conscious awareness, making it concrete and observable.

This can often evoke deep emotion and be a powerful process and if you choose to engage with this as part of your therapy I would work with you with care and sensitivity, but the choice to do so would be entirely yours.   A sand tray can be used at any time for creative exploration but might be particularly helpful when words are hard to find or when you are feeling stuck or uncertain.

I have a well-equipped room and the resources and experience to offer this type of therapy.  Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in finding out more.
